Lower Breck FC move to one goal behind league leaders after win vs struggling Trafford FC.

Goals either side of the half from Sam Burns and Harry McGee sent Lower Breck into 2nd place behind Bury FC.

Both teams come into this game looking to pick up vital points in their campaigns, for the home side the opportunity to top the table was present. On the opposite end, the visitors could close the gap to Nantwich in 18th to two points.

Either sides form was important to look out for in this one, Breck picking up four points in the same number of games. However, Trafford picked up all their points in the last four games with a win against Sporting Khalsa and draws against Mossley and Witton Albion.

Alex Cherera had the first chance of the game after being played in behind by Burns, but his left footed shot sailed over the bar without testing Sam Booth in goal.

Breck continued to work the ball well into the Trafford half as Tom Croughan’s pass to Harry McGee was dummied leaving an opening to Cherera to fire again. Although, his effort flew over the bar from close range.

Breck managed to create the game’s first big chance of the game with half an hour gone. Croughan found Cherera in behind once again after brilliant hold up play. The winger beat his man before laying the onrushing McGee eight yards out, his side-footed effort flew devastatingly over.

The home side finally broke the deadlock five minutes before the break. McGee drove at his defender on the left wing before cutting the ball back to Burns. He worked the tight space well for a low shot that beat Booth in the bottom right corner to make it 1-0.

Croughan could’ve doubled the lead deep into the added time as Dan Lowey found him two yards out with a chest height cross. The striker just misjudged the flight and didn’t manage to make enough contact with the goal gapping.

Into the second half, Trafford manager Kyle Marginson was the first to roll the dice with his side struggling to create much to shout about. He made three of his five subs in 20 minutes.

After creating so many chances so far, Cherera could’ve had his goal after beating his defender by cutting onto his right foot, but his driven effort was saved well by Booth.

Trafford created their first big chance of the game as substitute Josh Wood cut inside, played a quick one-two and found Henry Brown on the left wing. Brown’s low cross was almost turned into the goal, but Breck goalkeeper Theo Roberts did well to stop it on the line.

The home side put the game to bed with ten minutes to go though as Burns did incredibly well to hold onto possession for Breck. They worked the ball around the box before Croughan crossed into McGee. Breck’s number eleven controlled the cross before swivelling to strike past Booth for 2-0.

The loss for Trafford means they make up the bottom of the table on five points, with five points needed to catch Nantwich.
